Daytona Beach International Airport Runway Extension
Project Description:
Owner: Volusia County Airport Authority, Volusia County, Florida
Aviation is a vital part of this growing Florida community. From the daily training operations of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, to the welcoming of international charter flights, Daytona Beach International Airport is among the nation's busiest airports. So, when an extension of runway 7L/25R was required, it was important that the project be managed with a substantial commitment to efficiency and speed.
The 2600' extension takes the main runway to 10,000' which is ample for large overseas aircraft. The extension of the runway required installation of new touchdown zone lighting, runway edge lighting, taxiway lighting and 5kv power cable and lighting controls. With the constant flow of air traffic and the rigid requirements of FAA control facilities, this project was especially challenging. Its successful completion on time and on budget was especially gratifying.
