Lake Highland Water Treatment Facility
Project Information: Owner: Orlando Utilities Commission in downtown Orlando,FL.
As part of OUCs Project 2000 plan to improve water quality by converting its water system to ozone treatment and reducing chlorine use by as much as 70%, the new Lake Highland plant replaces a 47-year -old plant. Equipped with greater pumping capacity, the new facility produces 25% more water without having to drill new wells. It also features a treatment process aimed at preventing lead or copper from leaching into the water from customers plumbing and fixtures; and removes hydrogen sulfide from the water without the use of conventional chemical process'.
This award winning design-build project built by the Sverdrup Civil and Olson Electric Co.,Inc team was commissioned in February 1999. This facility was completed four months ahead of schedule and $7.5 million below the estimate due to the design-driven team assembled by Sverdrup Civil,Inc. The design-build team included Olson Electric Co.s Industrial Division for the electrical, instrumentation, security, fire alarm and telephone systems.
This project received a "Grand Award in the Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers' 1999 Engineering Excellence Awards competition. Orlando Utilities Commission Lake Highland Water Treatment Facility in downtown Orlando,FL.
